Visit Australia for Business or Leisure

The Australia Visitor Visa (Subclass 600) is a short-term visa intended for people who want to go to Australia for leisure, business, or to see family members who have been sponsored. It has different streams, each with its own privileges and rights.

This visa lets you visit Australia for business or leisure purposes for up to 3, 6 or 12 months. The base application charge for this visa ranges from AUD140 to AUD1020.

The eVisitor (subclass 651) visa is free. You must be a passport holder of a certain country.

The Electronic Travel Authority (subclass 601) visa has an AUD20 service charge. You must be a passport holder of a certain country.​

The different streams consist of:

• Tourist (apply in Australia),
• Tourist (outside Australia),
• Sponsored Family,
• Business Visitor,
• Frequent Traveler, and
• Approved Destination Status

• Visas allow tourism and business activities in Australia.
• Sponsored Family stream allows visiting Australian citizens, permanent residents, or New Zealand citizens.
• Approved Destination Status stream allows tourists from specific countries in an organized tour group.
• International students can enter Australia with a visitor visa and apply for a student visa while in the country.
• If a student visa without the ‘No Further Stay’ condition is expiring, they can extend their stay by applying for a specific visitor visa stream.
• Some visa streams allow for up to three-month courses in Australia.
• Visas facilitate cruise visits, allowing disembark and exploration during the cruise itinerary.

• Health examination is required for visitor visa 600 applicants.
• Adequate health insurance is required for sudden treatment in Australia.
• Good character is required before and during visa application and stay.
• The Migration Act 1958 determines good character.
• All visitor visa streams require sufficient funds for stay in Australia.
• No extension option is available for visa subclass 600.
• Family inclusion is not possible.
• Single entry visas allow international travel and return to Australia.
• If no international travel facility is available, a different visa must be applied.

Family-sponsored Visa

The family-sponsored stream requires applicants to be sponsored by a family member who is an Australian citizen or permanent resident.

Key Requirements for Family-sponsored Visa

You might be able to get this visa if you are travelling to Australia:

• as a visitor
• for business visitor activities
• to visit family
• The Migration Act 1958 determines good character

Other Requirements

• If you are in Australia, you can apply for the Tourist stream of the Visitor visa online provided you currently have a valid visa that does not have condition 8503 imposed.
• If you are outside Australia, only certain passport holders can apply for this visa online.
• If you hold a passport from the People’s Republic of China and are applying from within China, you might be able to apply for the Visitor Visa (subclass 600) Frequent Traveller stream visa.
