Key Eligibility Requirements

Possible Outcomes of Expression of Interest

If successful, the EOI has one of two outcomes:

  • You receive an invitation to apply for a visa.
  • You are contacted by an Australian employer to discuss employment and sponsorship opportunities.

The highest ranking EOIs under Independent and Skilled Regional (Provisional) visas automatically receive invitations to apply. Generally, the invitations are extended every month and are subject to occupation ceilings.

On the other hand, the state- and territory-sponsored visas will see the state or territory identify and select the skilled workers they wish to nominate. The state or territory may even contact the applicants before nominating them.

In case you get selected and you have submitted a points score that is greater than the required pass mark, you will receive an invitation to apply from the SkillSelect system.

If unsuccessful for the time being, do not lose heart.

Not all EOI applications get an invitation to apply. It’s because the number of people who want to migrate to Australia are higher than the number of available places.

In any case, if you do not get an invitation to apply for a visa, your EOI will stay in the SkillSelect for a maximum of two years, which means you may get an invitation anytime in future.

Steps to Take After Getting Invitation to Apply

  • The invitation to apply will come from SkillSelect. Upon receipt, you have 60 days to make your visa application.
  • At this point in time, you’ll need to the provide all the evidence to support the information given on your Expression of Interest.
