Carer Visa (Subclass 116 and 836)

A carer visa allows applicants to permanently live in Australia and provide care or assistance to their relatives who are not able to get necessary care from other relatives or welfare services. Moreover, they have a long-term medical condition that prevents them from performing daily activities or requires practical support to care for their family member with a medical condition.

• With this visa, you can remain in Australia for as long as you want.
• You can apply for Australian citizenship after fulfilling the requirements.
• You are allowed to travel back and forth Australia within five years on a regular basis after your visa is approved

• Applicants must live in Australia to provide care for a relative with a long-term medical condition or assist a relative needing practical support.
• The relative must be unable to receive care from any other relative or nursing, hospital, or welfare community in Australia.
• The applicant must be willing and efficient enough to assist the relative in Australia.
• The dependent family members must meet health and character requirements of Australia.
• The applicant must be sponsored by the relative or their partner.
• The relative and the family member needing care must be living in the same house.
• The sponsor must be at least 18 years old and settled in Australia as an Australian citizen, permanent resident or eligible New Zealand citizen.
