If an older parent’s child is an Australian or eligible New Zealand citizen or permanent resident of Australia, they are allowed to live in the country holding the contributing aged parent visa (subclass 884 and 864).

The contributing aged parent 884 visa is a two-year temporary visa that allows the holders to live in Australia however, you are not allowed to renew or extend this visa.

If you still wish to stay in the country permanently, you can apply for the permanent Contributory Aged Parent visa (subclass 864) before the temporary visa (subclass 884) is expired.
