Carpenters and joiners construct, erect, install, finish and repair wooden and metal structures and fixtures. Their skill-sets include:
- Setting the outline of the building on the ground with string and pegs to allow for excavations
- Erecting floor & wall framework
- Pitching roof
- Erecting suspended ceilings
- May also need to read plans and specifications of buildings
Entry to this occupation is through an apprenticeship.

Eligibility Criteria
Eligibility For Study Visa
Before applying for student visa in Australia, you must have:

Eligibility For Course
- Student must be of 18 years or older to be eligible for admission.
- Student must have completed year 12 or equivalent of Australian HSC.
- Completion of the general induction training program specified by the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work (ASCC 2007) is required before entering a construction work site. Achievement of unit CPCCOHS1001A covers this requirement.
English Entry Requirement
Student must have minimum 5.5 Band overall (with no band less than 5.0) or equivalent Pearson Test of English (PTE).

- Studying drawings and specifications to determine materials required, dimensions and installation procedures

- Erecting framework and roof framing, laying sub-flooring and floorboards and verifying trueness of structures
- Nailing fascia panels, sheathing roofs, and fitting exterior wall cladding and door and window frames
- Assembling prepared wood to form structures and fittings ready to install
