Higher Education System in U.S.A.
State College or University
A state school is supported and run by the state government. Each State in America operates at least one state university and possibly several state colleges.
Private College or University
As the name suggests, these schools are run privately. Tuition here is usually higher than the state schools.
Community College

Requirement of Funds

- International students on the F-1 status visa can work on campus for up to 20 hours per week while school is in session and can work full-time during vacations/scheduled breaks.
- The spouse of a student cannot work if on a dependent visa.
- Students can expect a wage rate of $8 to $11 per hour depending upon the job profile and industry, making it to average of $600 to $900 per month.
Post-Study Work Rights
- Student visa holders are eligible for a total of 12 months Optional Practical Training (OPT) per educational level completed.
- Students with a degree from STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) majors get an additional 17 months OPT extension (total of 29 months including 12 months OPT as stated above).
